Mountian Brook Girl among victims of Texas Flooding

An eight-year-old girl from Mountain Brook, tragically lost her life in the devastating floods that hit central Texas on Friday (July 4). Sarah Marsh was attending Camp Mystic, a Christian retreat near Hunt in Kerr County, when the floods swept through the area.

Severe flooding in central Texas has claimed the lives of at least 59 people, including 28 children, as of Sunday. Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha confirmed the death toll during a news conference, noting that search and recovery efforts are ongoing for missing victims. Among the deceased is an eight-year-old girl from Mountain Brook, Alabama, who was attending Camp Mystic.

The flooding, described as the deadliest freshwater flood event in the U.S. since 1977, has devastated the region known as "Flash Flood Alley." Kerrville City Manager Dalton Rice stated that local and regional authorities are committed to reviewing the disaster and improving future preparedness. The search for survivors continues, with 11 children from Camp Mystic and one counselor still unaccounted for.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott warned that more storms could pose life-threatening dangers in the next 24 to 48 hours. President Donald Trump has signed a major disaster declaration for Kerr County, allowing federal assistance to aid recovery efforts.

The community is rallying to support those affected. Former President George W. Bush expressed condolences, and World Central Kitchen is providing meals to those in need. As the search continues, authorities are urging residents to stay vigilant and move to higher ground if necessary.
